Maths week puzzle!!

A farmer is trying to cross the river. He is taking with him a rabbit, carrots and a fox. He has a small raft and can bring only one item at a time. The rabbit cannot be left alone with the carrots because he will eat them and the fox cannot be left alone with the rabbit because he will eat him. How does the farmer cross the river?
