OUR HISTORY
Stepping Stones Pre-school has been in operation alongside Stonehall National School since 1996. In September 2005 we moved to a purpose built pre-fab in the school grounds and have gone from strength to strength. Having the pre-school in the school grounds has made the transition from pre-school to junior infants a very easy and natural step. The children in the pre-school are familiar with Stonehall School and all the teachers in the school. Our pre-school calendar is run the same as Stonehall School and like the school we start at 9.00am.

A TYPICAL DAY
At the start of each session there is organised play i.e. blocks, trains, construction toys, play kitchen, play dough etc. Mathematical activities which include numbers and recognition of shapes along with language activities which will develop writing skills, are taught in a fun and easy going environment. Art and crafts also play an important part in our morning activities, either done individually or in small groups.
At 10.30am we take a break we take a break. The children bring their own ‘lunch box’ to school. This lunch break gives the children a chance to sit down and take it easy socially before we have some physical activity.
After this the children’s larger motor skills are developed. Weather permitting we use the school yard to play outside. Alternatively, if the weather is too bad, music and movement, singing, games etc take place in the classroom.
Before the children go home at 12, we usually wind down with a story or two. All in all, at Stepping Stones Pre-school, we aim to encourage the development of the child, physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission at Stepping Stones Pre-school is to provide a high quality affordable childcare for children from 3 years to 5 years in a safe, stimulating and developmentally appropriate environment.
HOURS OF OPENING
Stepping Stones Pre-school operates five mornings per week from 9.00am to 12 noon. We are participating in the Government free pre-school scheme (ECCE). In accordance with ‘Childcare (Pre-School Services) (No 2) Regulations 2006 we include a comprehensive collection of play based activities, ideas, music and visual aids designed to provide the children with quality Pre-school experiences. We also adhere to the principles of Siolta and work within the Early Childhood Framework as set down by Aistear.
We are fully insured and compliant with HSE regulations.
